Piopino (Agrocybe aegerita)

Commonly known as poplar mushroom, velvet pioppini.

Morphological characteristics

The cap is subglobose, which evolves into an extended convex shape, more or less dark brown in colour. As it matures, the colour becomes considerably lighter from the middle, which remains dark, to the outer rim, which is, in some cases, almost white. The cuticle's surface is wrinkled, with small cracks. It is glabrous and often splits when growing or when hot (or cold) due to a lack of moisture. The border has some velum, is uneven and scalloped. It sometimes cracks on growing.
