Cap: It can occasionally reach 15 cm in diameter, although typically it is between 5 and 10 cm, initially convex-shaped and eventually flattening out. Sometimes it is obtusely umbonate and others completely flat. It is a purplish blue in its typical form, but has different hues, which leads to the existence of many varieties. Lubricated, viscous cuticle with rainy weather, almost inseparable from the flesh, which turns brownish in adult specimens.

Flesh: thick and tender, especially the cap, somewhat more fibrous in the foot; pale lilac or whitish. It has a fruity odour. It is a very aromatic mushroom, and it has a sweet, pleasant flavour.
